We had such an amazingly relaxing and nice weekend. The rain gave us the perfect excuse to be a little lazy on Saturday and to catch Dallas Buyers Club before last nights awards. If you haven’t seen it, go see it!!
Saturday evening, we invited one of our favorite couples up for Sunday brunch. I love to entertain and get an odd amount of joy out of tablescapes, floral arrangements, bar set-ups and all of that good stuff. So, even though Sunday brunch is a rather causal event, I still wanted to add a bit of flair to our tablescape. With little time to prepare I knew it was going to need it to be quick, easy and simple. I have been waiting to use these placemats and napkins and I knew this would be the perfect opportunity. A simple white plate topped with a napkin and a clementine to add a fun and edible factor as well as a contrasting color.
Our amazing friends offered to make a Spanish tortilla, so knowing they had the main course covered I still wanted to offer up a few other options. Luckily, I had made a batch of super tasty oatmeal muffins earlier in the weekend so I wrapped them in a bowl alongside some quick berry chia jam. Don’t worry, I’ll share both recipes soon. They were both equally impressive and delicious! And, I had just enough time on Saturday night to whip up a variation of my classic granola recipe (but better) and paired that with yogurt and fresh fruit. Last but not least, I poured orange juice into a decanter, they aren’t just for wine, and popped some champagne! No brunch is complete without mimosas!
Here are my tips for a quick and easy tablescape:
– Stick to a color pallet and theme. This helps to keep the look and feel of the table uniform.
– Anchor the table with flowers. Use a color that works with your color pallet. I had white flowers in a vase so I separated them into smaller bud vases to spread along the table. Try to avoid large flower arrangements in the center of the table, you want to be able to see the people across the table, you don’t want to create a wall!
– Set the table the night before your event. It’s one less thing to worry about the day of!
– Make sure each seat has a water glass! Water is important, especially if there is also alcohol.
– If its a casual event, keep it casual. If you’re setting the table for a dinner party, stack the dinner and salad plate. Use place cards so everyone knows where to sit, plus everyone loves seeing that you took the time to make a spot for them!
– Have fun with it! Keep it easy and simple and make it something that you love!
