Gypsy05 Bathing suit via Canyon Beachwear // Dirty Ballerina Pants

Today I’m coming to you straight from the beautiful beaches of Hawaii! Before we talk about this bikini can we take a second to admire just how beautiful this backdrop is…definitely my favorite spot on the Island, so picturesque, right!? I’ve been lucky enough to grow up at the beach and because of that, am a total beach girl and can easily say that the beach is my happy place. You can usually find me running along the shoreline, stand-up-paddling over the reefs or spending my weekends at the beach… in an adorable bikini of course. I recently picked out this Gypsy05 bikini (I’m a huge fan of this brand!) from Canyon Beachwear and have been wearing it non-stop, if you follow me on Instagram you’ve been seeing a lot of it! I love the subtle pattern, the unique back detail and I can’t get enough of the halter neckline. Canyon Beachwear has a great selection of suits, coverups and beach accessories…I’m obsessing over this hat and this tassel trimmed coverup which would be perfect for summer!

This post is sponsored by Canyon Beachwear. All photos, writing and opinions are my own. Thanks for supporting the brands that make Sequins at Breakfast possible!

Ahi Poke Tostadas

poke1

Holy guacamole. You guys, these poke tostadas are, dare I say it, the most delicious things…EVER.  I don’t know about you but I’m constantly craving poke and luckily its pretty easy to come by here in Hawaii. I mentioned a few weeks ago that as things warm up and the closer we get to summer, the less I want to stand over a hot stove to make dinner. I’ve been looking for easy weeknight dinners that don’t require a ton of cooking and these Ahi Poke Tostadas totally fit the bill. There is minimal cooking (none if you buy tostada chips) and they can be on the table in 15 minutes.
I use a pretty traditional (and very simple) marinade for the Ahi which pairs perfectly with the avocado and Sriracha crema. When stacked on a crisp corn tortilla, it makes for a simple meal that has layers of fresh flavors. Lets just say you won’t be able to have just one!

VaVa by Joy Han Dress // Zara Shoes (similar) // Asos Clutch (similar)

After long relaxing weekends spent in my bikini at the beach I tend to crave outfits that are a little more dressy. A fun embroidered dress and a vibrant heel or a maxi dress and statement necklace usually do the trick! Since moving to Hawaii my idea of a “dressy outfit” has definitely shifted and tends to lean more to the casual side. Because really, beach life is super-duper casual, even heels are a rare occurrence! But every once in a while its fun to kick of the sandals and throw on the colored heels and a fun dress. This VaVa by Joy Han off the shoulder dress strikes the perfect balance between dressed up (for Hawaii standards) while still being casual and looks just as cute with a great pair of gladiator sandals as it does with heels!
Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Tips for the The Perfect Summer Picnic

picnic3

Now that we are in summer mode and starting to make plans for summer parties, adventures and gatherings I thought I’d share my tips for one of my fav summer activities…picnics! I consider myself to be pretty lucky in that I live in perpetual summer mode and that sunny days at the beach are a pretty common occurrence for me. But, this doesn’t mean that summer doesn’t get me all giddy and excited like it does for the rest of you. Watermelon, peaches, picnics…I love all that summer goodness just as much as the next gal so to celebrate the unofficial start of summer I packed up the picnic basket and headed down to our local beach park for a relaxing beachside picnic.

Planning the perfect picnic is sorta like planning a mini, transportable party. Sure you can head to the store and grab a bag of chips, dip and a 6 pack of soda but really, thats not all that special. To take your summer picnic up a notch here are fool proof tips and tricks.

picnic4

– Remember that your picnic is essentially a pop-up party so you need to bring the whole set up; blankets, chairs or pillows, a small table, music, a cooler for food and drinks, and plates, napkins, flatware, etc.
– Food prep and planning- Unless you plan to bring a small grill, picnic foods should be easy make ahead dishes that can be easily transported. Sandwiches, cheese/crackers, pasta salad, broccoli salad, etc. Think foods that can be eaten easily off a place or by hand. Pack your cooler or picnic basket with enough ice to keep your food and drinks cold.

picnic2– Setting the table- This table in a bag is amazing and it makes setting up a picnic extremely easy. I like to bring a few cloth napkins to act as a tablecloth, each pacesetting  has a melamine plate, colorful napkin  and inexpensive flatware to keep the napkin from flying away. Bring a small cutting board for cheese and crackers or other appetizers.
– Depending on where you’ll be picnicking remember sunscreen, bug spray, umbrella, sweaters, etc…
– And, last but not least, I always pack a fun game. Cards and smash ball are my favorite and are great for entertainment (or for relaxing after the feast!)picnic1Remember picnics can be any time of the day…I’m thinking a breakfast picnic would be a blast!
What are some of your favorite picnic foods and tips…share, share!

Slow Cooked BBQ Chicken

bbq chicken5Happy almost Memorial Day! While I’m assuming most of you have your heart set on celebrating the holiday with a backyard BBQ or a pool party if you’re one of the lucky ones but I’ll be relaxing on the beach and letting my crock pot do all the cooking for me.

bbq chicken1When I think of the quintessential flavors of summer is one of the first to come to mind. This smokey yet slightly sweet sauce is one of my favorites and its seriously amazing on grilled chicken and I’m thinking it would be pretty delish on some ribs- I’m not a rib eater but If I was I’d def smother them in this sauce! My absolute favorite way to use this sauce is to pour it into a crockpot with chicken and let it slow cook its way to tender, shredded goodness. You guys, it’s so good, like the best thing ever!

bbq chicken4Think Slow Cooked BBQ Chicken Tacos or Slow Cooked BBQ Chicken Stuffed Sweet Potato or if you’re my husband you’re thinking Slow Cooked BBQ Chicken Sliders…
And since the crock pot is doing all the work, all you have to think about are the sides. I mean, this Slow Cooked BBQ Chicken would be so good with bacon topped baked beans. Just sayin’… I think its pretty obvious what I’ll be feasting on this Memorial Day weekend!
