Happy Monday! Miles and I are in San Diego to spend some time with Grammy and Papa for the week. It’s been almost four months since we have been here so it feels SO good to be back. While I was packing us for our trip last week (the two of us are packed in 1 carry on…I still don’t know how I did it) I was re-organizing the diaper bag to make sure that we had everything that we would need for both the plane ride and our week in California and I thought it would be the perfect time to share what I pack in my diaper bag.
What I pack and bring in the diaper bag varies on a day to day basis. I actually have three diaper bags that I rotate between, depending on what we’re doing. I have a messenger style bag that’s a little smaller which is perfect for day to day use. I have this bag from Happ that’s really roomy and great for travel or when we’re planning to be gone all day and I also have this backpack from Haru that is ideal when I need both my hands or if we’ll be doing a lot of walking. Now, you absolutely don’t need three but it is great to have different style and size options and of course, different colors!
Since I am constantly changing bags I rely heavily on these diaper bag pouches from Mother Load. They’re SO convenient and keep everything so organized. Plus, depending on what we’re doing for the day I can easily throw a few or all of the pouches in my bag and I’m good to go!
We always, always, always pack a few of Miles’s favorite toys with us when we’re heading out for the day The Sofie Teether is great for a teething baby…it seems to hit all the right spots! This music player is his current favorite, if he is on the verge of a meltdown this toy instantly calms him down. This Taggies blanket is so fun, Miles loves playing with the different tags and of course, a board book!
Extra onesies are a diaper bag must! I always pack two extra onesies…I rarely need both but I am sure the one time I don’t bring two will be the one time I need that second one! I pack both the onesies and the “dirty clothes” mother load pouch inside the “clean clothes” pouch just in case we do have an accident.
Diapers, obviously! I like to back around 4 diapers to carry in my bag and then I leave a second pouch with extra diapers in the car. It’s nice to have back ups! We now use the Pampers Swaddlers (I still really like the Target brand, too) and still use the Babyganics Wipes. I also make sure to pack a travel size Dreft Stain Remover Spray (this stuff is a lifesaver) and Aquaphor to prevent any diaper rash.
And of course a few miscellaneous items; swaddle blanket, hand lotion, hand sanitizer, extra sunscreen (for mom and baby), chapstick and of course snacks for mom. I tend to get hungry while out and about so I like to make sure I have a few RX Bars or Larabars with me to snack on.
And that’s it! Sounds like a lot, and it definitely is but like I mentioned above, If we’re just going to be out for an hour or two I’ll edit my diaper bag and just bring enough to get us through that hour, and sometimes I’ll even just grab an extra onesie and my mother load “diaper pouch” and throw them in my handbag!
