Growing up in San Diego and now living in Hawaii, I’ve always made it a priority to take care of my skin. Beyond just good sunscreen I have been religious about getting regular facials and using the right products for my skin type. After two and a half years living in sunny Honolulu, I’ve noticed more and more signs of aging in my skin. The fact that I recently turned thirty mixed in addition to the constant sun exposure I decided that I needed to book an appointment for a facial to really combat the subtle signs of aging.
Last week I booked my first HydraFacial at the Honolulu MedSpa. It was everything I was hoping it would be, and then some! Here is a little background on the HydraFacial; it’s a liquid microdermabrasion treatment that removes the dead skin cells and extracts impurities while providing the new skin with cleansing, hydrating and moisturizing serums. It’s both gentle yet effective and oh-so relaxing!
My esthetician took the extra time to go over the steps of the facial with me while also taking extra care with the sensitive areas of my skin. (I had recently had a few moles removed and she took extra precautions around those areas!) She talked to me about my current skin care regimen and we discussed how to better use the products that I was currently using and what to look for in future products. I have been using a Vitamin C Serum in the mornings (which she recommends) and she shared that if you use the Vitamin C Serum right before your sunscreen it actually makes your sunscreen work better. I had no idea! We also discussed sunscreen and she shared that it is best to use a sunscreen with Zinc and Titanium Dioxide. Especially here in sunny Hawaii!
If you are local to Honolulu I can’t recommend Honolulu MedSpa enough. From the minute you walk in the friendly receptionist greets you and offers you a cup of tea or glass of water and then leads you to the waiting area. The whole spa has this really lovely calming vibe that makes you feel instantly relaxed. And, the room where I had the HydraFacial was just as relaxing. When I walked in the lights were dimmed and “spa music” was playing and my esthetician handed me the softest robe to change into before starting the treatment. The whole experience, from beginning to end was just fabulous and I’m already counting down the days until my next treatment.
