Thank you again for all your sweet comments about my baby news last week! Since I shared the big news things have started to slowly but surely feel more real. I’m still waiting for it to hit me that I’m having a baby, I’m thinking once I start to show it will really sink in and I can’t wait! I’m officially out of the first trimester and to be honest I was way more nervous the past three months than I ever thought I’d be. I was terrified that something was going to go wrong and only felt reassured once I went in for the routine check-ups where we could see the baby and hear the heartbeat. Now that I’m in the second trimester I’m feeling more at ease and excited to share more about my journey thus far.
We found out that I was pregnant very early, right before Memorial Day Weekend (only 3 weeks in!!), which was both a blessing and curse. It was exciting to know so early on but it has made these past three months feel so long and so slow although I have no doubt that these next 6 months will absolutely fly by. February 2017 can’t come soon enough!
Here’s a little first trimester bumpdate…
First Trimester Bumpdate:
How Far Along: 14 weeks, baby is the size of a peach!
Pregnancy Symptoms: I was really lucky and didn’t experience any morning sickness or nausea in the first trimester, really just more of a “blah” feeling but I had horrible acid reflux. I gave up overly acidic foods and stocked up on tums which seemed to do the trick. I am noticing that I am becoming pretty forgetful and will start doing something, get sidetracked and completely forget what I was supposed to be doing! Oh, and I’m so hungry, all the time!!
Sleeping: Great! On the weekends I tend to sleep about 11 hours a night and during the week it’s closer to 8 or 9 hours, although I could easily keep sleeping. I’ve never been a big napper but I’ve been completely exhausted and seriously wish I could turn in for an afternoon nap!
Milestones: Getting to see and hear baby’s heartbeat! The first time we heard it we were in awe, such an amazing sound! At our ultrasound this week we got a little wave from the baby which was pretty incredible (I didn’t know he/she was moving around yet!). I’m looking forward to feeling the baby move in the next few weeks!
Exercise: Running and at-home workouts 4-6 times a week. I decided to stop hot yoga after 7 years which was a tough decision for me but I think it will be for the best. I’m having a hard time getting in the work out groove because I’ve been SO tired but still trying to run 2-3 times a week and doing full body workouts when I can squeeze them in.
Maternity Clothes: I’ve picked up two pairs of jeans but other than that I’ve been pretty much living in dresses! I’m going to try and make most of my clothes work but will most likely be picking up a pair of leggings and a couple maternity basics in the upcoming weeks.
Cravings/ Aversions: Peanut Butter on Cinnamon Rice Cakes have been steady favorite at almost any time of the day, any type of fruit, fruit popsicles, cold drinks. In the early weeks I had some serious cravings for red meat, specifically hamburgers. More recently I’ve been craving more ethnic food.
I have had a pretty big aversion to sugary foods and find that they give me horrible stomach aches. I haven’t been able to drink (hot or cold) tea which is so odd because I used to drink decaf tea all day/ everyday at work! Roasted Vegetables (which used to be one of my all time favorites) are only just barely starting to sound appetizing again.
Nursery: No idea! I think once we know if baby M is a boy or girl we will have a better idea of what we are going to do. I do know that we will be either adding a pull out couch or extra bed to the nursery (we still need the option for visiting family) so if anyone has any good ideas on how to incorporate either of those into a nursery I’d love to hear!
Feeling: Excited and bloated…but mostly excited! I’m still waiting for it to really hit me but once we shared the news it started to feel a little more real!
